This initiative began after the loss of my sister, Izzy Essary, in March 2023. She passed away suddenly from an illness that could have been easily identified and treated through routinely seeing a physician. Our goal is to raise awareness among young adults of the importance of preventative healthcare, so we hear fewer stories like Izzy’s.
Already, we have had young adults reach out to my family and me about how Izzy's story impacted them. They hear Izzy's story and feel more inclined to go to the doctor for various reasons, sometimes finding complications early enough to save their lives. While Izzy may have lost her physical life, we are still keeping her alive through her story, hopefully saving the lives of countless others. She would be so proud to know the impact she had.
We hope to continue to encourage young adults to take care of themselves and those they love through medical intervention, reaching audiences who may only know Izzy through her story. We are so excited to grow with you.
Take care of yourself. Take care of each other.
With love,
LC Essary
Sister & President
My name is LC Essary, and Izzy is my only sister. Growing up, I knew I wanted to be just like her: have a giving heart, a loving mind, and a contagious laugh. I would be happy to encompass half of the light that Izzy shone daily.
I was in my junior year at Belmont University when Izzy passed away, working towards my Bachelor of Arts in English, with minors in graphic design and Latin. However, once I graduated in 2024, I knew that my career path had changed.
My parents and I decided to create Hug Ur Friends Foundation in hopes of hearing fewer stories like Izzy's. My parents and I poured so much time and energy into creating this foundation, and, around three years later, it has finally come to fruition.
Once we solidified Hug Ur Friends Foundation, I knew I wanted to become a primary care physician to help the foundation and young adults. I returned to Belmont University to take the prerequisites needed to take the Medical School Admissions Test and to apply to medical school.
I am currently in the last semester of my pre-medical classes and plan to take the Medical School Admissions Test in the summer, applying to medical school either this year or next. I also work at a Nashville hospital as a Newborn Hearing Screener on the weekends.
This foundation is my number one priority, and I am so thankful to have the platform and opportunity to share Izzy’s story to impact others. I cannot wait to see how this foundation grows, and to also grow with it.
Thank you for being here!
